The Single Track Story

Our Cellar Lead Codee took three weeks off work last summer to hike 90% of the Colorado Trail. He returned to the brewery with a new trail name and a new outlook on life. This year’s Single Track is inspired by that journey and benefits the Colorado Trail Foundation, the nonprofit that builds, maintains, and protects all 567 miles of trail from Denver to Durango.

Read our interview with Codee to learn more about the trail, the beer, and why this cause matters to him.

Why were you drawn to the Colorado Trail and what was the experience like?

I’m always looking for a challenge and I wanted to push myself. It was definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Every day I’d wake up with a plan, but that plan would have to change – maybe because of an unexpectedly intense thunderstorm or because I was running low on food. The journey taught me gratitude, patience, and resilience while showing me some of the most incredible landscapes Colorado has to offer. The coolest part of it all was the community – I made so many unique connections with people I never would have met in my day-to-day life. The whole experience really restored my faith in humanity. I saw firsthand that people just want to help other people: whether that’s picking up a tired hitchhiker, or offering to share supplies.

What made you want to support the Foundation?

I think it’s important to preserve this amazing public land. With the increasing pressure of climate change, protecting these spaces is more important than ever. The trail is a unique place to explore and adventure without any permits or fees. You have complete freedom to do what you want – hiking, mountain biking, even dirt biking – as long as you’re taking care of the trail (Leave No Trace!).

What was the inspiration for the beer?

I wanted to make a beer designed for drinking outside. Single Track was inspired by beers I used to drink by the lake back home in New York. Whether you’re camping, river rafting, or just hanging out outside, it’s super citrusy, bright, and floral – something you can drink all day.

At the end of the day, our values and actions are shaped by our experiences. We’re proud to support the people who are working to keep Colorado beautiful.

Single Track releases in all taprooms on Friday, July 3rd. Swing by for a pint and a 4-pack for your next adventure.
